Fredrika Stjärne is a Licensed Psychoanalyst in Greenwich Village, New York with expertise working with anxiety, depression, loss and grief, substance use, relationships and professionals navigating creative blocks. Drawing from personal experience as a photographer and over a decade working in a corporate environment, she understands the importance of helping individuals connect to their creative selves and uncover their full potential.
As a graduate of the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies, Fredrika's practice is grounded in psychoanalytic therapy. She works closely with her clients to explore complex underlying patterns, understand obstacles, and empower them to lead the lives they desire.
Fredrika welcomes teenagers and adults of all ages to her practice, and she offers sessions in both English and Swedish. Her practice is located in Greenwich Village, nearby the 14th Street Union Square and 14th Street metro stations.
Anxiety – Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Existential challenges – Supportive exploration of meaning and purpose in one’s life; finding one’s path in the face of existential anxiety, dread, and feelings of meaninglessness
Relationships – Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating
Sex addiction – Building strategies to reduce harmful sexual behaviors; coping with difficult emotions, thoughts, and urges; maintaining healthy relationships
Stress management – Strengthening effective ways of coping with the stress of life and change; managing expectations of self and others
Substance use – Reducing and preventing the negative impact of drug and alcohol use and addictions on physical, emotional, and relational health
Premarital counseling – Providing a safe and neutral environment for couples to explore expectations and prepare for the rewards and challenges of marriage
Career counseling – Support around personal and professional growth; clarifying goals and steps to building a fulfilling career and meaningful work-life balance
Compulsive behaviors – Coping with overwhelming urges and impulses, such as hair pulling or skin picking; developing alternative ways to reduce stress and alleviate suffering
Couples counseling – Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love
Depression – Providing support and promoting healing through hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Life transitions – Coping with difficult or impactful life changes, such as moving to a new area, relationship transitions, child rearing, or career changes; learning self-care to better manage resulting stress
Loss and grief – Emotionally preparing for the anticipated passing of a loved one; managing feelings and reactions to a death or loss of significance; support during the process of healing and acceptance
Parenting – Helping parents develop and implement strategies to address challenges that arise throughout childrearing; managing stress and increasing support
Perinatal mental health – Addressing issues specific to women and families during the pregnancy and postpartum period, including postpartum depression and anxiety

Initial session: Complimentary
Ongoing individual sessions: $175/session (50min)
Ongoing couples sessions: $225/session (90min)
Sliding scale: A sliding scale of $150 - $200 is offered to clients who need a reduced fee to receive therapy.

Psychoanalytic TherapyPsychoanalytic therapy tends to look at experiences from early childhood to see if these events have affected the individual’s life, or potentially contributed to current concerns. This form of therapy is considered a long-term choice and can continue for weeks, months or even years depending on the depth of the concern being explored.
