Sometimes it is difficult and scary to make sense of feelings, learning how to manage them, and being able to find healthy ways to cope while creating and fostering self-awareness. Therapy is a safe space and a confidential grounding process that through time, consistency and working together will allow you to identify and develop a healthy voice to express thoughts and feelings. I strive to help clients understand their emotional conflicts, behavioral repetitions, and their inner-self by empathetically assisting them in working through emotional difficulties and life struggles. Feeling empowered in being proactive about our health and understanding the steps towards change is a powerful and vital process to feel seen and heard.

I offer adult, child/adolescent and family therapy. "I have two doctoral-level degrees, one in clinical psychology and the other in educational psychology, providing both clinical structure as well as a tailored approach to individuals' specific learning styles. I use leading, empirically-validated approaches to treat anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, relationship/communication challenges and post-traumatic stress disorder. I bring my experience in research and clinical practice to each session to identify efficient ways to reduce stress, change behavior and achieve your goals. I have worked nationally and internationally with departments and ministries of health and education and have held faculty positions at Hawaii Pacific University, Yale University School of Medicine and Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. My research publications are in the fields of cultural, educational and clinical psychology.

Since we all enter therapy with individual intentions and motivations, I feel it is important to customize therapy to individuals' specific aspirations. My approach to emotions and behavior change reflects best practices and current advances in developmental, educational and clinical psychology. My purpose is to provide knowledge and skills that improve your ability to manage thoughts, feelings and relationships in order to create less stress and more enjoyment in life.

People cope in a variety of ways to deal with what life throws at them, but sometimes these strategies are unhealthy and act as a barrier to a meaningful life. I believe that asking for help is a courageous first step that shows a willingness to embark on a journey of progress and healing. I meet people where they are at—no matter how far along they are on the healing continuum. I look forward to hearing from you so we can begin to work on your healing process together. I now offer weekend and evening sessions.

As a psychologist, I am continually honored to connect with individuals in all of their humanness, and to help them connect to and trust that within themselves during their processes of healing and transformation.

My hope for you is that you are able to safely find new ways to explore, learn and heal through creative and holistic methodologies. I hold a space of safety and compassion with the utmost respect to you. I honor your journey and your own inner wisdom. And I see strength in vulnerability.

Therapy isn't always painful. At times there is discomfort, because you may be experiencing challenging and unpleasant emotions, but there is also laughter, strength and relief. I find sometimes people need a space to "breathe", "decompress," "find quiet", or learn how to spend time with themselves in ways that are rooted in wellness and promote their highest good.

Lastly, every therapist is different. This makes finding the "right fit" tricky. I get that. I encourage you to communicate what works and what doesn't. This allows me to better serve you and offers you an opportunity to take control over your own health and wellness. (If finding another therapist is needed, I can help there too.) I am open to challenges and welcome questions.

Individuals: I have experience in helping people with anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, and managing family and work life to be less stressed and more content with life. I tend to take an active, collaborative and supportive approach to my work. Because I have training and experience in a variety of evidence based treatments, we will work together to identify the approach best suited to your needs. The goal is to help you feel better!
Parents: No one knows your child better than you, and no one spends more time with your child than you. I tend to take an active, collaborative and supportive approach to my work, employing a coaching approach to working with parents. We will work together to envision the family relationships you would like to have, and I will support you in getting there using a strengths-based approach. I can be available to work with you between sessions via phone and text, when crises or concerns arise, to support you in the moment. I have experience working with a variety of family configurations, stepfamilies, and LGBTQ families.
Children: Is your child defiant, aggressive and difficult? Does your child have worries that get in the way of her happiness? Is he feeling sad or disconnected from friends? These are problems we can help with. The younger your child is, the more time I will spend with you as a family. For school aged children, I will work individually with the child, but have regular check ins together to enhance positive communication, and to support parents in learning new ways to support your child.
Adolescents: Work with adolescents starts from a youth-centered and strengths-based approach. For youth struggling with depression or anxiety, I take an interpersonal focus with specific skills taught as needed, such as understanding how negative thoughts influence behavior, mood tracking, and mindfulness. For youth with Executive Functioning challenges, we will focus on specific systems and skills to support time management, planning, and organization.
Couples: Why did you choose your partner? What childhood wounds do you carry with you into your adult partnerships? How do those wounds impact your day to day interactions? Are you stuck in cycles of blame? Do your relationship conflicts follow you to the bedroom? We will work together to helping you move from unhealthy cycles of blame and reactivity, to ones of increased understanding, empathy and intimacy with your partner. Using the frameworks provided by Imago therapy and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, you will improve communication skills and your empathic responses so that you have a deeper and more rewarding relationship. I am experienced in working with a diverse range of couples and families, including LGBTQ and poly-identified couples and families.
