My approach to therapy is a collaborative process. Your path is unique to you, so when we begin our work I join you on your journey as we explore possibilities and develop solutions together. Coming into therapy can be an extremely difficult decision. As such, the respect and appreciation I have for the courage it takes to reach out for help and to allow yourself to be vulnerable in therapy is immeasurable. The responsibility that comes along with this as a psychotherapist is something I will never take lightly or lose sight of. Therefore, I am 100% committed to the work we undergo together and will always aspire to offer a treatment environment in which you feel comfortable, respected, and valued at all times by a competent and empathic professional.

For expecting or new parents: The transition into parenthood can bring many joys and challenges. The wish to have a baby can be a powerful driving force in a man or woman’s life. Struggles with fertility can lead to depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, isolation, and physical symptoms. A vicious cycle begins: fertility struggles increase depression and anxiety, and depression and anxiety have been linked to decreased fertility.
Preparing for parenthood is also a large task. Women and couples with a history of anxiety, depression, difficulty making major life adjustments, relational conflicts, loss and grief may also seek out therapy as they prepare to become parents.
Postpartum depression is the most common pregnancy complication. When the joy of motherhood is replaced by feelings of sadness, fear, hopelessness and anxiety both mother and baby are at risk. Postpartum depression can interfere with a mother’s ability to take care of and connect with her baby. I have received post-graduate training to diagnose and treat postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders.
And finally, the journey to parenthood can also involve grief and loss. Miscarriage, still birth, and other complications bring a profound form of heartache. Therapy can ease and address these issues.

Understanding how my clients make sense of their world is of utmost importance. I use a variety of methods depending on the client and the problem. For instance, I rely on expressive therapy to help with unresolved grief, whereas I use mainly behavior therapy for tension reduction. Above all, I check frequently with my clients to be sure the methods I am employing are meeting their needs.
I have been helping clients with relaxation for 35 years, and I have continually refined my methods. I have in many instances helped clients to experience deep relaxation when they had failed in prior attempts, and I always try to balance challenge and support.
My clients generally come to me seeking help with eating and body image issues, anxiety, feelings of depression, or some other life challenge. Working together, we use a combination of psychotherapeutic approaches to understand causes and contributors and plot a course of action. The process of therapy of therapy typically involves helping clients get in better touch with their feelings and values. Over the course of our work together you can expect to move from a problem solving mode to one of deepening self knowledge and expanding potential. Most clients find psychotherapy a rewarding, and often exciting journey.
