Professional statement

Jennifer Griesbach is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Midtown Manhattan providing tailored support for early childhood trauma and loss, anxiety, and depression. She also offers couples counseling, and has a special interest in infant-parent therapy, helping new parents adjust to parenthood and develop a stronger, healthier bond with their baby and their partner.

Jennifer has unique expertise in supporting adult adoptees as they navigate identity formation, work through relationship challenges, and heal from early trauma. With specialized knowledge in this area, she is committed to guiding clients through exploring, understanding, and coming to peace with their adoption narrative.

Jennifer works from a Gestalt model with a somatic or body-oriented focus. She draws upon these approaches to help clients develop in self-awareness to support and heal in the present and to move past trauma at a comfortable pace. Her practice is located in midtown Manhattan, and is close to most subway lines and a short walk from Penn Station, the PATH train and Grand Central.

Adoption – Works with adult adoptees on the experience of adoption through the life cycle, including issues of identity, loss, relationships, anger, self-esteem and trauma
Trauma – Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Anxiety – Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – Healing painful experiences and memories from the past

Message to clients

“I want to help you find new ways of being in the world and new solutions to old problems by working closely to increase your awareness of yourself and to find and make better and healthier relationships. We will work in detail on your symptoms and issues, your feeling of yourself including what is held in your physical body, and explore what else might be possible for you. We will look at how you relate to others by carefully exploring the relationship that develops between us and see how that illuminates what is going on in your life. Gestalt therapy is an exciting approach where you can feel supported to experiment in session and in the world and to experience more aliveness and vitality.”
