Having worked in Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and traditional addiction treatment, our Founder and Director, Katherine Casey, saw firsthand the benefits of holistic care beyond traditional talk therapy including somatic and arts therapies, providing family support, collaborating with medical providers, and referrals to community resources. Perhaps most importantly, she recognized the value of using personal insight and experiences to help guide clients on their paths to wellness and self-discovery. Today, these lessons are the principles that guide our practice.

At The Root Therapy NYC clients have the opportunity to develop insight and gain new skills while feeling empowered in the therapeutic process. Clients play a key role in developing goals and evaluating progress in the therapeutic process – they decide what they want to get out of therapy and when they have achieved their goals.

The Root Therapy NYC is staffed with therapists with a range of clinical training and expertise to help guide clients through a change process using approaches that research has proven effective. Each therapist is an individual who reflects the group’s guiding principles through ongoing clinical supervision, continuing education, community engagement, and self-care.

About

What services does your practice offer?

The Root Therapy NYC provides comprehensive psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families; we also offer donation-based support groups. We strive to support a broad array of presenting issues and intentionally staff clinicians with diverse lived experiences and clinical certifications.

What are your practice's specialties?

Our practitioners are all skilled in holding space for trauma and attachment issues. Many of our clients are experiencing life transitions, especially developing their sense of self in relation to their family and world around them or re-establishing this identity while transitioning into parenthood. We enjoy supporting individuals growth and strive to continue to hold space for clients as their lives develop - many of our clients complete their goals for therapy but return years later when new challenges present!

Why should I choose your practice?

The Root Therapy NYC is the right space for you if you are seeking a dynamic therapeutic experience where therapy feels like a conversation and your therapist a trusted support person: able to bare witness to suffering, provide perspective to life challenges, and introduce research-supported skills & strategies to effect change.

How does payment work at your practice?

We are an out-of-network provider and offer "super bills" that have all the necessary codes and information to support client-initiated requests for reimbursement. We also accept FSA / HSA dollars and will attempt to bill directly through our EHR system. We are committed to making therapy accessible to a wide range of financial investments and, as such, each of our clinicians offers a small number of sliding scale slots for financial need. If you are concerned about cost, please reach out - we are always happy to connect prospective clients to care - even if therapy with us is not in the budget!
