Dr. Marianna Kessimian is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in Providence, RI. She received her MD from Boston University where she was also selected for the Gold Humanism in Medicine society as well as the Ruth J Hunter Johnson Prize for excellence in psychiatry. Dr. Kessimian completed her adult psychiatry training and child psychiatry fellowship at Brown University, where she served as chief resident. Previously, she was a staff psychiatrist at the Young Adult Behavioral Health clinic, and in this role was afforded the opportunity to work on campus at the Rhode Island School of Design providing psychiatric care to their students.
Dr. Kessimian has particular expertise in young adult behavioral health. She understands the complexities and demands that are specific to young adulthood and how to address these issues in a comprehensive and developmental appropriate treatment plan. She also specializes in eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety disorders, including obsessive compulsive disorder and other impulse control issues.
Anxiety - Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks
Body dysmorphic disorder - Addressing any obsessive focus on a perceived flaw in appearance.
Depression - Sleep and energy disruption, overall mood disturbance, inability to enjoy yourself, and difficulty being motivated, amongst many other symptoms
Eating disorders - Including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, purging; not wanting to give up the eating disorder; feeling lonely but struggling to eat with friends
Trauma - Including dealing with past sexual assault, childhood trauma, environmental trauma (e.g. witnessing/experiencing violence), PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder)
Young adult behavioral health - Navigating interpersonal, emotional, and behavioral transitions as an emerging adult and college student
