Professional statement

Beth Leigh Kolakoski is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in San Rafael, CA. Beth specializes in working with clients who suffer from low self-esteem that manifests in loneliness, isolation, and feeling a lack of authenticity. Many of Beth’s clients also face issues with their anger, anxiety, or stress, which overwhelm them during daily tasks. Beth also supports individuals and families that have been through trauma or experience behavioral challenges.

Beth’s approach to therapy is strengths-based, which means that she teaches clients how to harness their innate strengths to further their mental health journeys. Beth helps clients learn to reflect on their inner thoughts and feelings, addressing the harmful cognitive distortions that often result in anxious feelings. She collaborates with clients to set mental health goals and sets out clear, bite-sized next steps to reach those goals.

Beth brings with her an extensive background supporting individuals and families across a wide range of settings. She is a compassionate listener, deeply empathetic, and creates an atmosphere where clients feel respected, relaxed, and introspective.

Message to clients

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here!

There are times in our life when we might feel overwhelmed and confused when trying to manage today's stressors. Fortunately, because you are seeking help, you don't have to go through it alone. Often we need guidance when navigating the challenges and feelings that come when difficulties arise. In a supportive and empathic environment, issues such as: anxiety, sadness/depression, grief and loss, major life transitions, shame, ADHD, trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, as well as child/parent struggles can be addressed through a strength-based and solution-oriented approach.

Therapy is a journey I can help you embark upon, where the goal is to partner with, and empower you to make the positive changes you desire. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), in California, and I have been working in the field of counseling psychology since 2006. I have extensive training and experience working with adults, children and families in my private practice, outpatient, inpatient, and online settings for more than 15 years.

If you are reading this, you have already taken the first step towards making a positive change in your life or the life of someone you love. What I do best is listen. Reach out to schedule an appointment to discuss issues you want to address. If you think it is a good fit, together we can work towards the goals you want to achieve.
