Professional statement

Carolyn Frances is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Tracy, CA. She works primarily with kids (3 and up) and couples, in addition to adults. She often sees people who are struggling with navigating a turning point in their life, who desire to challenge and conquer long standing problems such as anxiety or trauma, or who are wading through depression, divorce, or the work of growing up. Carolyn is particularly passionate about serving youth and has spent additional time to become a registered play therapist. She also enjoys offering creative groups. She sees clients in person.

Carolyn has training in Gottman's couples counseling methods as well as Emotionally Focused couples counseling, which are the only two empirically validated methods for successful therapeutic work with couples. She also has hours of play therapy training and serves on the California board for play therapy and is currently pursuing credentialing for animal assisted play therapy. In session, Carolyn focuses on meeting you where you are and walking with you. She supports her clients in finding meaning, solutions, skills, and connection.

Carolyn's style is caring and creative. When a client first comes in, she focuses on their story and the different approaches available. She encourages her clients to provide feedback on how therapy is going and strives to be an experienced partner as they work through their challenges. Carolyn is dedicated to providing a relationship that is accepting, supportive, and positive.

Her varied background in theater, corporate America, and the therapy community aids her in understanding and meeting her clients. She continues to expand her knowledge in various methods that can assist her clients.

Message to clients

My therapeutic focus is on an emotional awakening of connection, purpose, and responsibility, which leads to awareness, acceptance, healing, understanding, and growth. I consider myself a champion of healthy marriage, play at all ages, and a holder of hope.

This could mean play therapy for the young, sand tray for the lost, and guided questioning for the searcher. For teens it means an opportunity to discover who they want to be and grasp positive strategies that will get them there. For couples, it means doing a relationship check-up and then learning how to strengthen the weak areas and better utilize strengths. In expressive arts groups it means both preventing problems as well as recovering from hurtful experiences with peer support.

I have animal assistants (cats and rabbits) that work with clients from time to time.

I enjoy singing, art, cats, and nature. I have been described as open, caring, and cheerful. I’m looking forward to learning more about you.
