Professional statement

Celia is a licensed Art Therapist living in New York state. Many of her clients are often referrals who seek a creative approach to coping with life’s old and new problems. They are people of all ages, genders and cultural backgrounds, including immigrants, LGBTQIA+, couples, seniors and adolescents.

Celia believes deeply in the potential of each person to live a joyful and contributive life and her therapeutic approach reflects this. She supports the concept that the sooner the client feels back in control of their lives, the better. In addition to training in Art Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy, Celia uses mindfulness techniques and principals from Acceptance Commitment Therapy with her clients, supporting the concept that “you are not broken, but stuck”. In session she will compassionately listen and support her clients as they identify roadblocks and barriers to living fully, as well as identify the values they hold most important in life. Together, they uncover plans to move forward.

Celia’s professional background includes Art Therapy training with emphasis on couples counseling, family systems, child development, trauma, grief, life transitions, addiction, anxiety, phobias, career changes, eating disorders, social anxiety, procrastination and depression. She has practiced both in northern California, as well as New York City.

Currently, Celia is available virtually for remote sessions (50 mins or more, as needed), with flexible office hours 7 days a week. She has an established practice and is fortunate to be able to offer a sliding scale for payment through PayPal, Venmo or Zelle.

Message to clients

One thing I tell my clients is: “You are in the driver’s seat”. You are the client and are in control at all times. Always. That may mean you choose to share only parts of your life, as you need. Or, it may mean that you literally put up your hand and say “I can’t go there today”, when asked a question, or asked to illustrate something from our discussion through Art Therapy.

Art Therapy doesn’t require any prior experience with art. It is more of an opportunity to use that part of your brain where words can’t go to express feelings. For example, through discussions and with pen and paper, one client was able to “draw a bridge” from the present moment into high school graduation and feel confident that his goals could be accomplished. Another used magazine cutouts to show goals for therapy. Each session is unique and a safe exploration (sometimes with art and sometimes with just talk) into the realm of healing, strength and successful living.

Because there are some clients who are able, my sliding scale fees can be adjusted to meet your needs. My clients are people who want to move through pain and back into living productive lives as quickly as possible. I wish that for you. Please don’t hesitate to call and discuss briefly (15 min session at no charge). I look forward to hearing from you!
