Professional statement

Chris Stevenson is a Licensed Master Social Worker based in New York City. He works with adults of all ages. Chris is particularly sensitive to attachment issues, in addition to anxiety and depression arising from living in a society that increasingly seems alienated and atomized. Chris' approach to therapy is integrative, with an emphasis on relational work and psychodynamic principles and application. He offers a warm, non-judgmental space where clients will identify the feelings and assumptions that generate the self-defeating patterns preventing them from feeling fully alive.

Message to clients

Therapy can be a powerful force for good, so long as we never lose sight of the paramountcy of human connection and avoid retreating into narcissism. So many of us desire to feel more connected, less anxious, and less alienated, but we simply do not know how to achieve this reality. This is especially true for some of us who have experienced attachment disruptions, or even more severe forms of trauma. Or, perhaps we see a path forward, but that path vanishes suddenly without warning and is replaced by malaise and renewed uncertainty, or, even worse, despair. Our work together will focus on developing that path in such a way where it will endure even in the face of adversity and the intrusion of the past into the present.
