Professional statement

Daniel A. Linder is a licensed couples and family therapist, a self and relationship based therapist) and trainer; an addiction, recovery and intervention specialist, who has three plus decades of experience working with individuals, couples and families.

All of his work his work is about empowering the transformation of relationships by developing the relationship with Self; and to elevate consciousness. increase connectivity and ignite creativity.

That relationships are both the cause of what brings people to therapy, be it anxiety, depression, addiction, and is the cure to what ever is ailing. And to make matters even more challenging is the prevailing lack of knowhow and understanding of the co-creative process. Relationship therapy includes training in the arts of relating, connecting, intimacy and conversation, to build confidence and achieve a requisite level of proficiency.

Daniel had spent the better part of several years crafting The Relationship Model of Addiction, A New Paradigm for Understanding Addiction and Recovery, highlighted by the following,

An addiction is a relationship, not a disease, with the means of relief (mind/mood altering substances; activities like sex, porn, gambling; or people, i.e. codependency) from unmet emotional needs.

Unhealthy, non-nourishing relationships are the spawning ground of addiction. The backlog of pain from unmet emotional needs is the underlying driving force of any addiction.

Recovery is a three-stage transitional journey out of unhealthy relationships and into healthy ones that continues over the course of a lifetime. Stage I - Breaking-up Mindfully (with the means of relief); Stage II - Developing the Relationship with Self; Stage III - Creating Emotionally Nourishing Relationships (relationship training).

When our need for love and connection get met, the addiction naturally extinguishes itself.

Message to clients

The common denominator in virtually all of my clients' struggles and problems is the lack of relationship with Self.

The relationship with your Self is the most important relationship. It's the “X-factor” for empowerment, change through awareness and action, and what makes transformation possible.

The common denominator in virtually all of the problems and symptoms that bring people to therapy is relationships, past and current and there is a prevailing lack of knowhow to boot.

Most of the relationships I work come in are mired in discord and disconnection due to the backlog of unexpressed feelings and unresolved issues that never get any airtime and a palpable wedge of mistrust and unsafety between them

Relationships are as good as the conversations had. Can you talk to each other? How much do you talk to each other? What can you talk about? But, more importantly, how well do they understand each other and feel in the process.

Usually the first conversation I facilitate and one you can expect to have, one I consider to be perhaps the most standard and basic one every couple needs to be able to have is, How are you feeling in the relationship and towards each other?

I create a safe space for you to begin having these ‘more difficult’ conversations and facilitate a process that ensures that you talk and listen to each other in a way, and about things, you never did before.
