She/Her/HersLicensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC
Emily Flavin graduated from Lesley University in Cambridge MA with a Bachelors in Human Development and Family Studies with an additional focus on Child Development and Education. After moving to California, Emily became a certified Montessori School teacher in the AMI training school in Mountainview, CA. In 2008, Emily decided to further her education and training by obtaining a Masters Degree at San Francisco State University in their Department of Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy Program. In this program, Emily trained to work with populations across the lifespan. While obtaining this degree, Emily discovered her unique interest and skill in working with adolescents.
In the years since obtaining her Master’s Degree, Emily has worked in the field of addictions treatment, acute assessment in area hospitals (Hasbro/RIH, Bradely Hospital), community health organizations, high schools, and outpatient office settings. She has worked with the LGBTQI adolescent and adult population, and self identifies with this population, as well.
Emily specializes in working with teens and adults. Her work focuses on integrating modalities to support her clients needs based on their concerns when they come in for therapy. Emily utilizes cognitive therapy, CBT, trauma informed treatment and care models, self compassion techniques, mindfulness therapy, and psychodynamic theory when applicable. Emily has specialized in working with people who have experienced various types of trauma in their lives. She believes we come to places where we find ourselves challenged with an obstacle or are off balance, maybe just feeling unwell. Emily genuinely believes each of us hold the answers to our own truths; ultimately “we drive our own cars”. There are times we need support to find those answers, and assistance to getting and staying on course.
Emily is an LMHC licensed in the state of RI.
