Janelle Farias is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Diego, CA. She offers therapy sessions in both English and Spanish to clients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. With particular expertise in developmental psychology, Janelle is uniquely sensitive to the challenges that arise at stage of life transitions, including entering a new school, relationship, job, or becoming a parent.
Janelle is committed to using evidence-based therapies, drawing primarily from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients build the concrete skills they need to challenge unhelpful thought patterns and stay grounded in daily life. Janelle supports her clients’ experiences with depression and anxiety by emphasizing their strengths and building a step-by-step, manageable plan to work towards a happier future. No matter where an individual is in their journey, Janelle recognizes the importance of self-empowerment and building healthy, strong relationships.
Janelle also holds a special place in her practice for trans and gender nonconforming young individuals. She is experienced working with doctors, schools, and families to form a treatment team that validates each individual’s gender identity and helps them remain connected to their community.
Janelle received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Her mission is to bring compassion-based and culturally-competent care to clients throughout Southern California.
