Professional statement

Jose Cruz Rodriguez is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Providence, RI, and he is the owner of Diversity Counseling, LLC. Jose and his team meet with clients who feel overwhelmingly sad, anxious, and nervous to help them find comfort in their daily lives. He also supports those who suffer from addiction by giving them the tools they need to establish healthy habits. Jose is passionate about working with Hispanic and Latino clients and draws from his own personal background to provide culturally competent care.

Jose and his team's approach to therapy combine thought-centered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and motivational interviewing. By guiding clients through the motivations behind their actions, he then gives them tools to build healthy habits. He’ll teach clients skills to become aware of their thought patterns and cognitive distortions, which may negatively impact their moods. He practices trauma-informed therapy, which means that he’s additionally intentional with treatment for clients with trauma backgrounds. For his Christian clients or those inclined towards religion, he draws from Christianity to guide conversations.

Jose earned his Master’s degree from San Francisco Ecclesiastical Orthodox University. He aims to bring mental health care to diverse populations and to help individuals feel more joy and fulfillment in their lives.

Message to clients

We have all had to face unexpected changes. Learning to face these changes can only add to the already very difficult challenges in our lives. Depression, anxiety, fears, substance abuse, addictions, and events that we have unintentionally left unresolved in the past, require that we learn to develop healthy coping techniques to make appropriate everyday life decisions.

As a counselor and therapist with 14 years of experience, I delight every day in helping people to develop new and more appropriate coping skills. It would be a pleasure for me to be able to help you or your loved ones.
