Professional statement

Lina’s approach combines Mindfulness techniques with elements of trauma-based models of therapy (such as Internal Family Systems) as well as other therapeutic influences and knowledge drawn from neuroscience and biology. From the first session with Lina, clients will be encouraged to attend to connections between experiences during formative years and present-life struggles. Lina is dedicated to helping clients find freedom from unhelpful habits and patterns of thoughts and begin to take conscious leadership of their own internal world.

Message to clients

Have you ever found yourself saying or doing something, in frustration, anger, or fear, and afterward thought to yourself: “Why did I do/say that?! That’s not me!” For some of us, early life experiences (abuse, neglect, witnessing violence inside or outside the home, racism, feeling wrongly-gendered) have left us with sensitivities that can be triggered by situations or people, and we find ourselves lashing out at others or ourselves.

Using models of therapy rooted in the body, we will work together to explore the roots of these triggers; the sensitive, hypervigilant “parts” that cause us to react in ways that seem inexplicable and out of character to our present-day selves. We will learn to identify and befriend our younger "parts" and recognize the roles they play in our lives.

What makes me excited about counseling is the prospect of helping clients to discover and embrace the True Selves that they have been burying due to trauma, or criticism, or fear of rejection. We are meant to flourish, to be creative, inventive, connected beings, and I love helping people to rediscover those parts of themselves they may not have connected with since childhood.
