Professional statement

Melanie Lichtinger is a Licensed Counselor in Pennsylvania and North Carolina and a Certified Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher with a mission to eliminate the stigma around mental health. Her practice focuses on helping women and individuals who identify as LGBTQ+. Melanie has specialized training in anxiety, stress management, and grief and loss.

Melanie is trained in and primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and other Mindfulness-Based Approaches to identify and address the root causes of the client's emotional struggles. By combining her education and experience as a counselor with her training in mindfulness and meditation, Melanie offers individualized treatment plans that help each client achieve their goals.

Melanie believes that everyone deserves to be understood in the therapy room. She focuses her approach on listening to understand rather than to respond. Melanie works with clients to understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and actions to help them regain a sense of control. Knowing everyone is different, she works at the pace of the client.

Melanie received her Bachelors in Psychology at Gannon University. She went on to earn her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Slippery Rock University. She gained experience in Family Based Mental Health, an Acute Partial Hospitalization Program, and an Outpatient Clinic before starting her Private Practice. Throughout her training, Melanie has learned how to normalize mental health struggles, ask the right questions, and help her clients live a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Message to clients

I know that reaching out for help is hard, especially when you are struggling. I am here to tell you that you are not alone. We all experience loss, we all feel emotional pain, we all go through transitions in life that affect our mental and emotional wellbeing. I am here to tell you mental health struggles are not a sign of weakness. They are a sign you are human, and reaching out for help is a sign of strength.

My education, specialized training, and experience have helped me identify a unique approach to counseling. I ground my work in normalizing emotions and mental health challenges so my clients can begin their healing process with a sense of acceptance. Together we build the skills necessary to overcome anxiety, manage stress, and work through grief. Personal growth requires hard work and dedication, but you do not have to do it alone.
