Professional statement

Nina Garcia is a Drama Therapist committed to empowering individual and collective resilience. Her clients are creatives, dreamers, and independents who sometimes find themselves held back by painful experiences of the past and present. Nina co-creates unique therapeutic experiences with clients, engaging her curiosity, creativity, and playful compassion, supporting clients to live their best life beyond the trauma and identity spectrums.

Many of Nina’s clients navigate overwhelming emotions, underwhelming sense of purpose, and questions around identity, all of which impact how they show up in the world. She works with clients to restory clients' present relationships to past trauma, and diminish the effects on their present day experience.

Nina's therapeutic approach is rooted in creative arts therapy and humanism. She draws from her training in Drama Therapy, clinical trauma work, and anti-supremacist empowerment coaching in order to expand clients’ internal and external tools for resilience. Nina's practice, Houston Creative Arts Therapy, is the only private practice in Houston specializing in Drama Therapy. A variety of modalities may be used in sessions, including: play, drama, theatre, dance/movement, art, music, poetry, and more.

Nina is committed to maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice, which serves as a safe harbor for people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and people of the global majority. When not engaging in therapy, Nina actively engages in anti-supremacist work as Host of the podcast "Triggered: Can we play with that?"

Message to clients

As a Master’s level clinician with Drama Therapy training from New York University, as well as Musical Theatre training from Sam Houston State University, I have lived a life that specializes in meeting challenges with creative interventions. My style is both bold and compassionate: I have helped survivors of trauma in hospitals, jails, detention centers, residential treatment centers, non-profits, offices, and in their own homes. I have moved, held, danced, and yelled along with people processing their anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders, gender dysphoria, and the one we all deal with at some point in life - identity and role confusion. What I do is powerful work, and yet it meets you quite delicately right where you are at in your process - we take the time that is needed to make the work work. I am honored to support people from many walks of life, yet those who identify as independents, creatives, and/or survivors tend to be most drawn to the type of energy I provide in sessions. If you’re ready for meaningful change, at a pace that works for your unique journey - I’m so ready to meet you. Reach out, and let’s see what we can make happen.
