Professional statement

Robin Friedman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York who helps individuals 18 and older around stress, trauma, life transition, relationship issues, parenting problems, depression, anxiety, and grief and loss.

Robin's professional work is founded on the belief that all people, regardless of age or circumstance, have the capacity to learn and grow and to enhance their personal well-being. As a therapist, she partners with her clients to explore present difficulties or past traumas. Through a supportive therapeutic process, Robin's clients discover and build upon their own inner strengths and resources, which they learn to rely upon outside of therapy in their daily lives.

Robin's professional orientation is rooted in humanistic and developmental psychological perspectives. Her approach combines a healthy balance of support and challenge – with the goal of growth and learning always in mind. She uses traditional and alternative techniques that are focused in the “here and now” and at times are experimental. As a therapist, she is a perceptive, active listener who provides a warm, safe atmosphere where patients can express their inner life at their own pace.

Message to clients

As human beings, we are innately adaptive creatures. Our ability to learn and grow exists throughout our life span.

As a therapist, I use a range of tools that include mindfulness techniques to help you reconnect to your own capacity to move towards health and enhanced personal well-being. Additionally, I am trained in and frequently use Gestalt experiments, and EMDR to help lessen the impact of distress on your life.

My offices are located in NYC’s Flatiron District and in Harrison, NY. and I see patients during daytime and evening hours. Contact me if you are curious about individual counseling and psychotherapy services and would like to explore if this service is right for you.
