Professional statement

Sung-Mun is a clinician at Resilience Lab. She works with individuals from all walks of life who are experiencing varying degrees of challenges from anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD to relationships issues, cultural adjustment and more.

Sung-Mun's approach is to remain flexible and use a mix of different therapy modalities according to the needs of the client. What one individual needs in a therapy may be dramatically different from what another individual needs in a therapy. Furthermore, what one individual needs in a therapy at a given moment may be very different from what that same individual needs in a therapy at a different moment. Appreciation of the profound complexity of the human psyche and recognition that paradox is woven through the human life requires Sung-Mun to be flexible and to be able to work in widely divergent ways.

Sung-Mun has spent over a decade working to support culturally diverse New Yorkers in schools, family courts, correctional facilities, and nonprofits as a program coordinator, case planner, advocate and program director.

Message to clients

I know personally the courage it takes, along with research and planning, to take the steps to seek out therapy/counseling/healing. Whatever weight you are carrying on your back, whatever is sitting deep in your heart, or whatever obstacles are blocking your way, in this space, we will explore your inner most self in a deep, profound way, explore all nuances of your feelings to another, and you will receive nonjudgmental acceptance. The human psyche and interpersonal relationships are profoundly complex for any one person to try to navigate alone. But Resilience has brought you this far, and within you, you have what Irvin Yalom calls “an inbuilt propensity toward self-realization.” My hope is to support you through this process in developing a life full of meaning.
