Professional statement

Tabitha Ford is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NY. Tabitha has experience working with individuals who struggle with varying degrees of neurodiversity, substance abuse, trauma, codependency issues, grief, loss ,coping with change and so much more. While Tabitha is open to working with all individuals, she specializes in working with young adults, new moms, and couples. She assists her clients with navigating difficult life transitions such as graduating school, navigating the workforce, grieving a recent relationship, marriage, new parenthood, and/or recovery from addiction or a mental health episode.

Tabitha believes in the importance of resiliency and the role it plays when overcoming adverse events. Tabitha works with her clients to identify and develop healthy coping skills needed to address stressful, and sometimes traumatic, situations in their lives.

Tabitha’s approach to therapy comes from a humanistic perspective, where she believes the client is the expert in their own life and utilizes sessions to help individuals work toward being their true self. She also helps her clients recognize how unresolved family and relationship conflicts may affect their emotional well being.

Tabitha is committed to maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice, which serves as a safe harbor for people who identify as LGBTQIA and people of the global majority. At this time Tabitha offers the flexibility of remote therapy sessions, and welcomes new clients to her online practice.

Message to clients

I believe YOU are the expert of your own life, and my job is to help you find the answers you are searching for from deep within yourself. You guide the pace of the therapy sessions, we can discuss what you did over the past week, what is currently stressing you out, or even what you’ve accomplished today. Therapy doesn’t always have to be able delving into the depths of your childhood experiences and painful memories, it can just be about improving your day to day interactions and perceptions in the here and now. You’re driving this plane, and I’m just your copilot.

Choosing to seek out therapy can be a very scary decision. After all, you’re expected to pour your heart and soul out to this complete stranger and leaves you feeling vulnerable. However, sometimes not having an emotional investment in someone allows you to be more open and honest with not only the therapist, but with yourself. Sometimes life can get hectic and you can be pulled in a million different directions, that you neglect your own well being. Choosing to go to therapy is choosing to focus on yourself for 45 minutes each time you go. Whether you choose to only attend 3 sessions, or you can attend weekly. I’ll be honest, working on yourself is not always pretty, but it’s worth it. You’re worth it.
