Professional statement

Tiffany O'Toole (she/her) is a Counselor in North Carolina and Virginia who works with young adults (18-35). Many of Tiffany’s clients come in to address early childhood trauma, relationship issues, anxiety, life transitions, and depression. She is particularly passionate about serving the military community (active duty, spouses, veterans) and LGBTQ+ community.

Tiffany is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which uses bilateral stimulation (i.e. utilization of both sides of our brain) to help activate the brain's natural healing mechanism to reprocess past trauma and reduce current disturbances. She also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors to gain self awareness and work to change unhelpful patterns into more useful ones. In session, Tiffany approaches each individual with positive regard, empathy and genuineness to create a safe environment in which they can work on overcoming life's obstacles together and focuses on mindfulness, such as breathing exercises and grounding techniques to cope with overwhelming emotions or experiences. This approach helps clients to feel more confident in managing life stressors.

Tiffany's style is compassionate, encouraging, and collaborative. When clients first start therapy, she works to establish a strong relationship and comfortable environment where each individual feels safe and heard.

Tiffany received her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Marywood University. She has worked for the Marine Corps as a civilian counselor for seven years before starting her own private practice. Outside of work, she enjoys being active outside hiking, at the beach, walking her dog, kayaking, biking or doing yoga. She is also an avid reader and traveler.

Message to clients

My approach is a collaborative one. I do not have the answers to your problems, nor will I tell you what you should do with your life. You are the expert on yourself, your feelings, your relationships, etc. I bring the knowledge, skills and training as a mental health professional and together, we figure out a path forward for you which will decrease your emotional pain and help you live a more satisfying life.

As a counselor, I believe it is part of my job to reduce the stigma surrounding counseling and highlight the strength it takes to seek help. I have been on the receiving end of counseling services and know that it takes courage to be willing to dive into your inner self and explore the darkest parts with which we’ve tried to disconnect. I would be honored to join you on this journey.
