Professional statement

Vilna Tejeda is a bilingual Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Providence, RI who specializes in mood and anxiety, disorders, academic challenges, and autism spectrum disorders. She has extensive experience working with teens, college students, women, immigrants, members of the LGBTQIA community, and medically compromised students. Many of the teens she works with are experiencing emotional regulation issues, anxiety, and/or depression. She is fluent in English and Spanish.

Vilna is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychoanalysis, and mindfulness practices. She spends time working with her clients to explore the root of the problem before deciding which treatment modality will be most effective. When working with a client with a history of trauma, Vilna utilizes trauma-focused CBT.

Vilna has expertise in LGBTQIA-related issues, especially around the coming out process. She reminds her clients that they are in charge of their identity and can decide when is the right time to come out. She helps her young clients look towards the future and remember that there is a world outside of school. This includes developing plans and envisioning what they want their life to look like.

Vilna offers a nonjudgmental, safe space for clients of all ages. Her ultimate goal is for her clients to leave feeling confident in their future and who they are. She looks forward to meeting you at her office conveniently located near Brown University.

Message to clients

I acknowledge how difficult it is to make to the decision to come to therapy. Seeking support for emotional or personal challenges is an act to bravery. I realize how stigmatized strong emotions are in our society, and at times we may feel shame for crying. In my practice I aim to serve as a platform free of judgement that allows you to speak your deepest pain and discomfort. To support you in establishing a channel of communication between your body and your mind.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Gender identity & transgender health - Exploring gender identity, including trans, non-binary, and gender variant identities; support throughout the process of transition
