Professional statement

Dr. Wes Myers is a psychotherapist in private practice in Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania. Dr. Myers has worked in the field of psychotherapy for over 30 years. During that time he has provided therapy to clients with a broad range of emotional health issues. These include anxiety ,depression and bipolar disorder. Dr. Myers specializes in providing treatment to persons with eating disorders. As such he has helped persons who have been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Dr. Myers has provided mental health services in inpatient, partial hospital and outpatient settings.

Dr. Myers takes an eclectic approach to treatment. He uses techniques that have been shown through research to be the most effective in treating various psychological disorders. Dr. Myers believes in helping clients learn effective coping strategies to deal with the stress they are presently experiencing. He also utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy to assist clients in challenging and changing the negative irrational thoughts contributing to their current distress. Dr. Myers then helps clients explore the issues underlying their present problem behaviors. Persons often grow up in environments where they feel emotionally unsafe. In these environments individuals learn not to trust and that their needs don't matter. Often times unresolved issues from the past contribute to difficulties in current relationships and to the development of unhealthy coping strategies. Through the therapy process Dr. Myers offers clients a space where they can finally feel heard and validated. The hope is that this experience enables them to feel a greater sense of self worth and entitlement.

At the present time Dr. Myers is providing therapy through telehealth sessions at this time.

Message to clients

If you are reading this message you are considering talking with a therapist. That's not an easy decision to make. It takes courage. Good for you for taking he first step. As a therapist in practice for over 30 years I have had the privilege of assisting so many persons in therapy who have been unsure about participating in the process. Over the years I have witnessed clients make significant progress in therapy. It has been a privilege working with these clients and watching their lives change. Although no one can guarantee significant change will take place in therapy, it has been my experience that most people with emotional health issues struggle because they don't have the support they need to move forward, I also believe that therapy is about more that just helping people feel less depressed or anxious. It is about helping people change the way they are living so they can move forward and experience healing and fulfilment in their lives. At this difficult time in your life, I hope you will allow me to give you with the support you need to work through the issues that have been holding you back from living the life you are meant to be living.

I look forward to meeting with you soon.
