Professional statement

William Kelly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based out of San Diego, CA. Williams works with adults of all ages on finding new ways to process through trauma, depression, anxiety, and major life transitions. William has a passion for working with veterans and those in the military, as his background as a Naval Officer taught him the importance of mental health care while serving.

William’s therapy style brings many effective tools from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT involves embracing adversity in a way that promotes healthy coping skills, self-empowerment, and relaxation techniques. As a therapist, William teaches how to get “unstuck” in a life stage and move towards a happier future. He brings a client’s values into the conversation as a way to explore what’s important to the client and how that person’s values influence behavior.

William received his Masters in Social Work from Winthrop University. As a culturally-sensitive, strengths-based therapist, he promotes the value of taking care of one’s mental health and well-being in all parts of life.

Message to clients

If you are struggling with life's inevitable challenges, whether it be due to past or recent trauma, anxiety, depression, or simple difficulty transitioning from one life event to the next, let's work together on a unique plan to embrace these struggles head on by learning new, healthy coping skills. We may have to address some of these past events, however, this can be done while learning new skills. What if we "accept" the inevitable, stop the "struggle" with the thoughts, and "commit" to living a life full of value?

I practice from the idea that we behave according to what we "think" about situations AND how the "fight" against these thoughts causes us suffering.

Look...society tells us in many ways that in order to be successful, we have to be able to "do it all at any cost!" However, the "at any cost" part usually includes poor self-care and issues in our intimate, professional, and social relationships, we find ourselves lost. Let’s work together to discover your ability to start LIVING your life!
