Finding a connection with a therapist can be tough. We will explore your needs and what you are seeking in treatment. If we both decide that we are a good match then we will begin. Should we feel that your needs may be better addressed by another therapist or approach I will help guide you to someone that may be a better fit, at any time before, during, or after treatment.

I have worked throughout my academic and professional career to make myself accessible as a person and psychiatrist. I work very hard to create an environment where you can speak openly and honestly about your life and the things that are preventing you or your child from being the best "you." I want to help you feel confident and more able to do and get the things that are important to you out of life. I know it may be difficult to face personal struggles (anxiety, sadness, loss, grief, change, relationship distress, identity struggles, etc.), yet I will work to create a caring space where we can work together to assist you to access your talents, help you to realize or remember the abilities you have, as well as learn new ways to manage stress to grow and flourish. I will work with you to create an individual (and or family) treatment plan. If you are struggling with an illness that would benefit from medication, we can discuss options that may benefit your particular situation/diagnosis. I also provide therapy and medication (if needed) in one appointment if that is more appropriate for your circumstance. What is most important is to feel comfortable and heard, and I will do everything I can to make our work together collaborative.

I always feel honored and privileged to be allowed into my clients-into their depths with their trust. I believe that learning to be a therapist is a never-ending process, and that if I am asking my clients to be curious, I need to practice that in my own life. I have extensive training in many areas and bring them all into my work, tailoring the experience to each individual and couple. I will continue to acquire more tools, refine those I have, and keep digging deeper in my practice to meet people where they are, to hear what they want, and to challenge them to move towards more fulfillment. I want everyone to feel I am walking alongside them, working toward healing and beyond.
For individuals: There are many reasons to begin therapy, but typically people come to see me when they are feeling stuck or when life’s challenges feel overwhelming. We can collaborate to find new ways to look at stuck places that are internal (emotional, trauma, destructive thoughts, anxiety, depression, etc.) and/or external (relationships, work, financial, etc.).
For couples: Relationships are hard work and we all need help at times in navigating through stuck places. I am excited about emotionally focused couples therapy because it provides a real, emperically validated road map to getting unstuck and moving towards a deeper connection with your partner.

To parents: I want to start with thanking you for everything you do for your family. Being a parent is not easy, especially when you are parenting a child who is experiencing difficulty. My office is one where you will not be judged for your child's behaviors or problems because I know that is not helpful. We will work together to figure out how to support you and your child with evidence-based treatments and medications only as they are indicated. I also treat parents directly, particularly those who are struggling with the transition to parenthood or balancing the demands of parenthood with other responsibilities.

To college students and young adults: I am here to help you if you feel like your coping skills are failing you. There are so many things you can do to feel better that are safe and well-tolerated. There is no time like the present to address the factors limiting your potential.

A lot of the distress I work with seems to involve people having strong feelings and then getting tangled up in thinking they are wrong or flawed for having the feelings. I work to help people find their own capacity to be with, befriend and hopefully transform the aspects of themselves that bring them pain and discord, (e.g. depression, anxiety, overwhelming emotional reactions or traumatic memories). I draw from several approaches to therapy, especially IFS, EMDR, and DBT, and approach patients with a personal manner that I am told is open, non-judgmental and engaged. I make my sense of direction and ideas about the course of therapy as clear as I can, and then dialogue about it with my patients to co-create an approach to working with their issues.
