Welcome to Water & Stone!

As the founding director, I (Emery) am looking forward to speaking with you so we can find the best option in offering you support during this time in your life. We specialize in working with women, the lgbtqia+ community, trauma, anxiety, and grief just to mention a few. I personally speak with you during your initial complimentary phone call, so we can discuss what you are looking for and the questions you might have as we find a way to take a step forward that feels confortable to you.

We are a group practice that focuses on a mindfulness based, contemplative approach when it comes to supporting your mental health and wellness. Each professional therapist is adept in both traditional talk therapy and an area of creative arts therapy, so you have options to choose from as we find the right therapist for you.

One of my main goals at Water & Stone is to ensure you are with the person who can best help you with an approach that feels good and supportive. You need to have a good connection with your therapist to get the most out of this experience, so we are flexible and will work with you to help make sure you have the right fit.

I would love to hear your stories — and how you're feeling today. Our session will begin with your story. We will listen together without criticism or judgment. Over time, as we continue, you'll gain a new perspective and awareness, accompanied by fresh ideas and behaviors, and many practical tools. As we understand and explore the aspects of your life, the therapy room will become a safe space to rehearse your real life. You'll find viable solutions for the day-to-day issues you face outside of our session room.

I am currently providing online therapy sessions during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

I believe that we all have our very unique and intrinsic desires that continuously evolve within ourselves as our lives unfold. When we have been in an adverse situation, whether it’s due to our own internal issues or difficult circumstances, we may fall out of touch with our desires. And when that happens it not only can perpetuate our troubling situations but we may become feeling unsure and unable to navigate through those situations creatively and with authority – so we feel stuck or helpless. In my work with clients, helping them unearth their desires and motivations is very essential – because it provides them an opportunity to re-assess their important values in life, make necessary shifts in their priorities, and create a mobility to actually move toward what’s really meaningful to them.

I work in a close collaboration with clients, where I help them initiate various forms of dialogues within their selves in search of deepening insights or moving forward from troubling situations. If there’s anyone who is interested in finding a therapy space where they can work on connecting their desires and meanings with specific problem solving issues, I’d love to hear from them.

All people deserve to live a life that is fulfilling, empowered, and free. Often, due to the trauma of daily living and greater challenges we are cut-off from our own source of wisdom and feel stymied and stuck. In a day and age that values product over process, mind over body, and quick-fix techniques more than in-depth healing, we leave a lot of our pain—and a lot of our story unexplored. My approach to psychotherapy is appropriate for anyone and everyone seeking better to understand themselves, transform their choices, and create life-shifts no matter how big or small.

Deciding to see a therapist is a huge step towards getting more fulfillment out of life. Often we rationalize, avoid, isolate or give up when faced with life's challenges. This leaves us feeling anxious, depressed, powerless and hopeless. By reaching out for help, you're taking the initial step towards change.

My belief is that psychotherapy is an active process where you and I explore issues in your life that are troubling. In doing so, you become the catalyst of change. I view my role as a guide along your journey, offering support, guidance, empathy, insight and encouragement. In turn, you become better equipped to attain what you want in life, the way you would like.

My training as a creative arts therapist specializing in drama therapy allows me to use a variety of ways to help you achieve your goals in treatment - either through traditional "talk" therapy or using creative media like role playing or art. I also have extensive training in psychodynamic therapy which enhances my ability to assess what someone is struggling with and why.

What does this mean for therapy, am I going to have to act out my problems?! Not at all, rather I use my training as a drama therapist to inform my thinking and interventions. For example, I may share metaphors, stories, or images when listening to you to help you take a step back, reflect and in turn gain a better understanding of what is happening. Role playing is always optional!

Ultimately you can reach a place where you can become clearer on how you feel, what you want and empowered to get it.
