LGBTQ Therapists in New York

Finding a lesbian, gay, trans, or queer-identifying therapist can be one of the most important factors in an LGBTQ person’s therapist search. For many, sexual orientation and gender identity can be an important part of therapy (for example, coming out to family or friends); for others, it may not be the focus of therapy, but seeing a therapist who has an understanding of LGBTQ experiences at a personal level can be empowering and reduce the amount of explanation needed of their unique experiences.

Below are therapists who identify as LGBTQ in New York. They specialize in a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family relations, trauma, and sexuality and gender. All therapists have been vetted by the Zencare team to ensure they offer high quality, clinically rigorous care. You can also check what language the provider speaks on their individual profile.

Anyone can find it isolating when you don't feel seen or heard by others. It can also be a struggle to live in an oppressive world. Maybe you are out of resources and everything keeps demanding more. These stresses mount if we don't have the community support we need to take care of ourselves. You know these problems because you've probably dealt with them your whole life in some shape or form. Reaching out for help can be the hardest but most important first step to break that isolation.

Greetings! Thank you for your interest in learning more about collaborating with me. I have provided information below, on my theoretical orientation and areas of specialization. Please feel free to message me with any questions, or schedule a 10-minute phone consultation. Sending well wishes your way!

I work together with individuals who are curious; curious about their patterns, curious about the possibility of relief, of healing, of strengthening, and of social connectedness. Life is full of overwhelming experiences that can translate to distressing levels of sadness, anxiety, anger, regret, shame, disappointment, indecision and confusion. Together, we will explore the unique features and drivers of such challenges, and in doing so, cultivate capacity for long-lasting change.

I approach my clients from a Strengths-Based lens, and use a variety of techniques informed by Polyvagal Theory and the Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP). I specialize in trauma recovery, and use the technique of EMDR to address a wide variety of overwhelming life experiences.

I am keenly aware of how daunting it can be to find a new therapist. The saturation can overwhelm and leave one feeling that the right fit may be out of reach. For this reason, I offer no-cost, 10-minute phone consultations, to give you the opportunity to determine whether my style and approach best meet your needs. I look forward to hearing from you!

I am committed to anti-racism being reflected in the experiences between me and my clients.

I am committed to the continuous examination of my privilege, and to identifying, owning and correcting my personal biases.

I am committed to strategies that dismantle racism within all aspects of my professional and personal life.

Psychotherapy is your time to talk. When we grow and change, we naturally want to reflect on that journey. When we struggle or have set-backs, having someone to listen to our stories can help us develop a new perspective. When we find a way to acknowledge and accept our emotional experience, we often discover a deeper sense of meaning and move forward. I have great respect for my clients and want to help you try to achieve a more satisfying and fulfilling life. Take this time to truly get to know yourself.

My practice offers a warm, safe and supportive place to work on your stuck points and ways to enhance and transform your life. Together, through the process of therapy we can unpack not only past negative experiences and/or behaviors, but also focus on how they impact you in the here and now; and most importantly identify strengths and patterns that we can examine and retool.

My style is empathic, eclectic, and informed by your particular needs and situation. I tend to use a strength based approach to help you recognize your own power and magnificence and your ability to make the changes that will enhance your life and alleviate struggle

It takes great strength and courage to reach out for help. Whether you have already realized the benefits of therapy and need to come back or especially if you are new to therapy I welcome you to journey together.
