Dr. Apraku is certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Licensed to practice medicine in California and Massachusetts, Dr. Apraku has helped over a thousand patients via tele-medicine.
Previously, Dr. Apraku served as Chief Resident of adult psychiatry at Drexel University, where she also completed her residency program. She holds a doctor of medicine degree from Ross University and a bachelor of science degree from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Apraku provides a wide range of psychiatric services to adults. Common psychiatric issues for which she routinely offers advice and treatment include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. Other common mental health concerns include life transitions, attention difficulties, mood swings, anger, traumatic events and problematic eating.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Bipolar disorder - Developing coping and preventive strategies to stabilize extreme mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes; increasing effective strategies to regulate emotions and maintain a healthy daily routine
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Adjustment difficulties and disorders - Support around adapting to new and/or challenging life circumstances; skill-building for improved stress management and reduction of anxiety
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) - Reducing unwanted intrusive thoughts and rituals by gradually building comfort and confidence facing difficult fears, thoughts, and emotions
Race & cultural identity - Exploring topics of racial, cultural, and ethnic background as it relates to one’s family origins and personal identity
