Professional statement

Dr. Melinda Hansen is a Psychiatrist in AZ, FL & NJ providing the services through telehealth.

With a strong desire to experience a wide breadth of psychiatric specialties, I opted to pursue residency through the University of Florida which had fellowship opportunities in geriatric, child/adolescent, forensic, and addiction psychiatry as well as pain management. This program allowed me to work closely with experts in these fields as well as participate in a Community Psychiatry Fellowship serving the severely mentally ill with close collaboration with their primary care providers. This led me to practice both telepsychiatry and integrated care models in Alaska for the Alaskan Natives as a traveling doctor upon graduation.

Message to clients

Psychiatry sparked my interest early on in my clinical years of medical school as mental health was frequently overlooked in comparison to patient’s physical health. I quickly realized that without mental health, patients were not able to care for their physical health. This inspired me to focus on sharpening my skill set to hear my patient’s mental health concerns, diagnose their psychiatric conditions, and work with them to find resolve for their mental health condition.

Given patients have unique needs and levels of engagement in their care, I do my best to “meet them where they are at” in their desire for treatment options. It is key in the patient/doctor relationship to have collaborative atmosphere where patients are given the tools needed to make the best decision for their treatment after a discussion of their diagnosis and the different treatment options with respect to benefits, risks, and alternatives.
