Professional statement

Dr. Allison Bell is a Psychologist licensed in New York and Massachusetts. She started her career working with children and families, and has since grown to work with everyone. She especially loves talking with young professionals, and with young people who are formulating life choices and running into stumbling blocks or confusion. She also enjoys working with parents on how to do parenting better.

Dr. Bell's approach to therapy is eclectic, drawing from her movement and nonverbal communication training, relationship skills training, and trauma treatment work as well as a developmental understanding of the life stages of humans. She tends to be interactive, sometimes suggesting homework or reading, and is not afraid to share some of her own experiences if appropriate.

Dr. Bell has specialized in divorce work for over two decades, and testifies as an expert witness. She knows the New York and Massachusetts court system well and can offer support to parents who are struggling with high conflict issues. She's also a trained mediator and Collaborative practice professional, so loves working in teams with other professionals.

For the time being, and likely for the foreseeable future, Dr. Bell is offering remote teletherapy sessions to clients throughout New York and Massachusetts.

Message to clients

Helping people of all ages navigate the important relationships in their lives is something that has been pivotal in my work for many years.

From infant development to retirement and beyond, family life forms the matrix from which we all learn about how to be with and talk to others. There's no such thing as a perfect family, and no training manual for parenting, which means that all of us suffer from the bumps and bruises of learning to live with one another, imperfectly.

If and when we can figure out how to treat ourselves and others with dignity and respect, without shame and humiliation, we can enrich our connections to others and feel some measure of safety in the world. I'm grateful to guide you along that path.
