Professional statement

Amy Cousineau is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Seekonk, MA, who has worked within and across systems, as well as with individuals across the developmental lifespan including teens and young adults. Amy received her Masters of Social Work from Smith College.

Amy's therapeutic style encompasses a broad range of techniques. Amy was trained psychodynamically, and has transitioned over to more evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. She works to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors, and begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change.

Amy is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. Amy has expertise in anxiety, panic, depression, ADHD, family therapy, and interpersonal difficulties.

Amy’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. Amy offers both Telehealth and in person sessions She offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care.

Message to clients

I believe that healing is possible and that we are so much more than the experiences we have been through and the behaviors we exhibit. It is helpful to find someone who you can just be yourself for an hour a week, talk about all the things that are important to you, and not have to wear a brave face or feel judged. It can be hard to reach out for the first time. This is a place where we work together on making you feel like you can achieve the happiness that you really deserve.

Particularly as a college student it can be incredibly stressful to move from high school to college. Many people feel the need to be perfect, make the right decisions, and I work with you to feel comfortable with yourself, enjoy your academics and social life. I believe change happens when individuals are ready to make adjustments in their lives, and I thank you for allowing me on your journey.
