Professional statement

Dr. Bailey Hanek is a licensed clinical psychologist and AASECT-certified sex therapist in Cambridge, MA. She works with individuals, couples, and those in ethically nonmonogamous relationship structures. Her areas of expertise include life transitions, relationship issues, desire discrepancy, and gender exploration.

Dr. Hanek believes that her clients learn how to be in the world, in relationship to themselves and others, through past experiences. Change involves identifying and understanding what her clients have learned, and helping them learn new ways of being that serve them better.

After graduating college, Dr. Hanek attended medical school for several years before transitioning to William James College, where she earned her doctorate. Since becoming licensed, Dr. Hanek has pursued advanced training through the University of Michigan, where she gained her AASECT-certification in sex therapy. In addition, Dr. Hanek serves as a consultant for the online sex therapy forum, Between Us Clinic, and is co-author of a clinical manual on couple and sex therapy, which will be published in 2024. She has also been featured in several publications, including Men's Health and Mashable.

Message to clients

Welcome! Taking the steps to search for support is not easy, and I hope that you are proud of yourself for making it this far. In your journey for a therapist, please take the time to find someone that you really "mesh" with. The best predictor of positive therapy outcomes is the fit between client and therapist. I work to earn your trust so that therapy becomes a place where you can truly explore your deepest thoughts and feelings, knowing that you will be supported and cared for. Therapy is a sacred space where you can finally take of the masks that you where in your daily life and breathe. I hope to create that holding environment with you. If you'd like to learn more about who I see, and what and how I work, please make sure to watch my video!
