Professional statement

Cal has three areas of expertise - substance use, eating disorders and gender-affirming care.

If you are struggling with substance use, from mild concern to exploring sobriety, Cal will join you and is knowledgeable about both harm reduction and twelve steps models.

If you are worried about your relationship with your body, Cal also has experience working with a host of eating issues from poor body image to binging/purging/restricting on a daily basis

Lastly, as a trans therapist, Cal is dedicated to working with clients who are exploring their gender and sexuality. Whether you are just starting to question or are worried about coming out or need to obtain appropriate medical care - Cal can provide a safe place to start exploring.

Cal is trained in both talk therapy and skills-based therapy. If you want to talk it out or want concrete skills or something in between, you and Cal can figure out what approach works best for you.

Most of all, Cal is curious about you and wants to help you feel like you can navigate the world authentically and effectively.

Message to clients

Feelings are part of life - but regulating them is hard and tolerating the uncomfortable ones is extra hard. Managing your emotions is not taught in schools or valued in today's culture. In fact, you may have been told feelings are not important and should be ignored or pushed away. This can leave you feeling totally lost about how to cope when faced with any sort of emotional experience. Food, substances, self harm, compulsive shopping or other maladaptive behaviors may become the one way you know how to tolerate or repress feelings. Maybe you are realizing that these behaviors have stopped working for you and have started to impact your functioning. You might feel stuck - like something needs to change but you are not sure what. Or you don't really want to give up your current behaviors - but want to understand them better. Together, we can figure out a game plan to help you deal with feelings and live your best life.
