Carly Steinberger is a licensed clinical social worker, with expertise in helping new mothers, parents and young children (0-7 years old). Carly helps parents who are feeling overwhelmed or inadequate when it comes to parenting, and young children who tantrum, can't hear the word "no," have separation anxiety, have experienced trauma, or are going through family changes (such as the birth of a sibling or divorce). Carly is comfortable seeing parents individually - those who may need the support of a therapist to talk through their new mom/ parenting struggles - and seeing parents and young children together for family sessions. Carly teaches parents how to approach their children in new ways - ways that lessen stress and increase connection.
Carly is a relational, collaborative therapist. She uses the therapist-client relationship to help her parent clients feel seen and heard, and to reflect on what is needed to move forward. She offers concrete tools if requested. When working with parents and young children, she works on helping parents deepen their relationship with their child to help the child overcome whatever it is they are going through. Carly knows that therapy is not forever - and that it is much more meaningful to show parents how to help their young child than to help that young child directly. The parent child relationship is key to what Carly does!
Carly is trained and certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). She has also completed training in maternal mental health through Postpartum Support International. She is also a certified infant massage instructor.
Carly is currently accepting clients virtually in California. When working with young children, Carly often has the parent wear blue tooth headphones so she can assist the parent directly when interacting with their child.
