Professional statement

Dr. Haley Mazzarella is a Clinical Psychologist in Cambridge, MA who specializes in working with the LGBTQQIA+ community, depression, anxiety, PTSD, sexual abuse, developmental trauma, and individuals who are in recovery from eating disorders. She also has extensive experience working with college students, individuals in non-monogamous relationships, and members of the kink community. Dr. Mazzarella primarily offers long-term psychotherapy.

Dr. Mazzarella is a humanistic, relational psychologist who believes in an equal partnership with her clients in the healing process. She has a psychodynamic orientation, which means that she believes that experiences and patterns of behavior in a client’s past affect who they are now. She will incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help her clients gain a better understanding of fear and anxiety cycles. She will also utilize mindfulness practices to help clients understand and soothe difficult emotions in healthy, sustainable ways. For clients who need to expand their treatment team, she helps them connect with other healthcare providers.

When working with individuals in recovery from an eating disorder, Dr. Mazzarella utilizes psychodynamic therapy in sessions, while also coordinating treatment with clients' existing healthcare support systems, including registered dietitians, PCP's, and psychiatrists. Working with a support team of providers allows the client the space in therapy sessions to focus on the processing of past experiences and current emotional needs and the development of new coping strategies and a new relationship to the self, food, and body image.

Dr. Mazzarella wants her clients to live lives that are healthy, centered, and that reflect their unique selves. She welcomes working with people from all cultural and religious backgrounds. Her office is located between MIT and Harvard.

Message to clients

Sometimes we need help resolving painful and difficult experiences, strengthening our emotional muscles, and finding new paths in our lives. I am dedicated to helping people live their lives in a way that best reflects and supports who they are and who they want to be. I consider it a special trust to listen—as an unbiased third party—and help others process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that they can move forward.
As a therapist, I use my training in clinical psychology and my capacity to hold and carefully consider the complexities of life’s challenges to help people see themselves and their choices in new ways. My orientation is a good match if you are looking for long-term, transformational change. I look forward to helping you on your path!
