Professional statement

Heather Edwards is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Coach in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan near Grand Central Station. She is an expert in trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, and relationships.

Heather is Certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which helps unblock and release painful memories, leading to more rapid recovery from emotionally charged experiences. She uses EMDR for trauma from childhood abuse and neglect, procrastination, self-esteem, assertiveness, binge eating disorders, limiting beliefs, fears, and phobias.

In her work with couples, Heather works to uncover patterns, power dynamics, and the root causes of conflict. In these sessions, she also explores with clients what each person is bringing into therapy from their family of origin. Through this process, love, empathy, and active communication become the new normal.

Heather’s style is integrative, drawing from the best of several approaches including Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, CBT, and Humanistic Psychology. She values her client’s perspective and always meets them where they are in an open, curious, and nonjudgmental way. Heather follows her clients’ lead, helping them understand and overcome obstacles.

Heather offers a safe space for clients to work through their experiences and better understand themselves and others. She works collaboratively to empower clients as they move through the future with confidence and joy. She looks forward to meeting you online or at her office on Lexington Ave at 40th St.

Message to clients

If there was a way to feel better, would you be interested? When trauma is triggered, it prompts a wave of automatic reactions. It feels scary & out of control. It destabilizes relationships, and deepens a sense of aloneness. Experiences such as bullying, abuse or neglect, and accidents can cause these reactions.

Clear trauma with EMDR therapy, boost self-confidence, & experience a joyful life. Re-discover your innate natural wholeness. In psychotherapy, I will witness your life story, guide you to new possibilities, & build your resilience from the inside out.

As a seasoned therapist with 20+ years experience, I've helped adults, families, & children in homes, hospitals, community centers, schools, & private practice. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY, FL, RI, & PA, a Certified EMDR Therapist, a Life Coach, & Board Certified Counselor. I specialize in healing anxiety, depression, & trauma.

It can be difficult to find the right therapist, and uncomfortable sharing your life with an unfamiliar person. I will meet you where you are, help you soothe the inner critic, clear trauma, & develop meaningful values-based goals. I invite you to co-create your treatment journey & dialogue about your progress.
