Professional statement

Dr. Jaclyn (Jackie) Kearns is a licensed clinical psychologist who works with adults and couples navigating trauma, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, and the overlap of trauma and substance use. She brings a warm, collaborative style to her work, meeting clients where they are while helping them build practical tools for lasting change.

Her approach is grounded in evidence-based, cognitive-behavioral methods, with particular depth in trauma-focused care. She is trained in several gold-standard treatments for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Written Exposure Therapy, and also draws on cognitive behavioral therapy for depression and exposure and response prevention for OCD. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, she tailors treatment to each client's goals, pace, and presenting concerns.

Dr. Kearns earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Rochester and completed her internship at the VA Boston Healthcare System, where her rotations spanned general mental health as well as co-occurring trauma and substance use. This training shaped her particular interest in helping clients address difficult experiences without becoming defined by them.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr. Kearns is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a research investigator in the Behavioral Science Division of the National Center for PTSD at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Her research, supported by funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, has produced more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. This active engagement with the latest science directly informs the care she provides.

Dr. Kearns sees clients via telehealth on weekday evenings and on mornings/afternoons on the weekends.

Message to clients

If you're considering starting therapy, reaching out for support takes courage, particularly when you're working through something difficult. My aim is to make that first step feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

From our initial conversation, my goal is for you to feel heard and at ease. You don't need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation of what's wrong. My role is to listen carefully, approach your experience without judgment, and help create a space where you can be honest about what's going on.

A few things I'd want you to know about working with me: I rely on approaches that research has shown to be effective, but I never lose sight of the fact that you are more than a diagnosis or a treatment plan. You're a whole person, and our work together will be tailored to you—your history, your strengths, and the goals that matter most to you. We'll move at a pace that feels right, and we'll make decisions about your care collaboratively.

Above all, my hope is that you leave our work not only feeling better, but with greater confidence in your own ability to navigate what lies ahead. I would welcome the opportunity to support you in that process.
