Jamie Given is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) guiding clients to find balance in their lives. Transitions and change are sometimes hard to process and accept. Whether it's change from a traumatic event, a loss of self, a choice for something different, the natural progression of life, or an adjustment forced upon you, it can be difficult to manage any conflicting emotions. Many of the clientele of Given Guidance Counseling Services are in state of transition. Jamie teaches effective coping skills to help manage negative emotions and encourage alternative views of thinking that promote acceptance.
The therapeutic approach by Jamie is to truly understand what the client needs in the present time. Does the client need immediate coping skills or a safe and nonjudgmental space to process their thoughts and emotions freely? Jamie checks in with clients often and asks them what they need regardless of how others may think or feel. She emphasized the significant difference between logic and emotions and treats them as two different entities. She assists clients in identifying solutions to fill their needs and encourages authentic self- expression in clients of all ages.
The office is located in a quaint and cozy small town called Montrose with nearby shops and restaurants. When seeing couples in person, Jamie will often recommend that they go on a date before or after session at one of the local eateries or cafes. Once comfortable, parents of child clients often will walk to the nearby Starbucks or Coffee Bean while their child is in session. There is free 3 hour parking in the back of the building. Given Guidance Counseling Services also offers telehealth therapy for for children 10 years or older, adults, and couples.
