Professional statement

Janine Morris is a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist in Sebastopol, California offering in-person sessions and telehealth sessions all over California. Janine’s focus with clients is on trauma (specifically early childhood trauma), body-image, feelings of shame and low self-worth, and mindful self-compassion.

Janine’s work helps clients to explore what gets in the way of loving themselves the way they want and living life as their most authentic self. Her work isn’t about just eradicating symptoms, but creating a deeper understanding of what drives the symptoms, and how folx have learned to adapt to trauma, overwhelm, and loss by creating strategies and patterns that might no longer serve them.

Janine’s approach is primarily informed somatic modalities such as Somatic Experiencing®, a somatic, psychobiological method developed by Peter Levine for resolving trauma symptoms in the body and helping to regulate the nervous system, and NARM (the NeuroAffective Relational Model), a somatic, neuroscientifically-informed, depth-oriented model aimed at addressing complex developmental trauma.

Janine works from a health-at-every-size, sex-positive, and gender affirming perspective and strives to offer a safe and accepting space that makes somatic work accessible to all bodies. Janine’s practice centers folx in bigger bodies, folx with disabilities, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA, queer, trans, gender non-conforming, neurodivergent, ethically non-monogamous and kinky communities. Janine works with individuals, dyads, triads, families, and polycules.

Message to clients

We all often hear that you ‘just need to love yourself more’ or have ‘more self care.’ But how do you actually do that? This is something easy to understand intellectually, but often more challenging in practice. My work focuses on exploring with you what gets in the way of of loving yourself the way that you want, and living as your most authentic self.

My work is specifically tailored to each individual, focusing every session on what you would like to get out of therapy, and the ways in which you would like to thrive more. My somatic approach is not to force you into a body that doesn’t feel safe, but to help you create the conditions for your body to feel like a safe place to inhabit, and to explore the obstacles that get in the way of that.

I work with you to restore or create an inner sense of safety, empowerment, and peace. I believe therapy is about creating enough safety to stretch beyond what is familiar into a place of thriving.

It is an honor to be a part of every client’s healing journey.
