Dr. Wood is a clinical psychologist offering telehealth in New York and Connecticut. Educated at both UCLA and University of Washington, she has been in private practice for over 20 years and has served as a provider for Yale University employees since 2012. Dr. Wood offers early morning and evening slots (7:30am-7pm) to accommodate people who have busy work lives. If preferred, she is happy to provide an initial free 20-min video consultation instead of a 10-min phone call (message her to request!).

Dr. Wood welcomes people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds and her practice is LGBTQIA+ friendly. She is down-to-earth, accepting, nonjudgmental, and respectful. Dr. Wood is warm and uses humor when appropriate, and her sessions are very interactive. Clients leave their therapy sessions with hands-on skills that can be used during life's most challenging moments.

Dr. Wood practices a scientifically-proven form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

ACT is different from traditional CBT in that, instead of trying to change thoughts and feelings, mindfulness skills are used to help clients accept and get some space from them. Clients find that when they are struggling less with their emotions, they feel better psychologically and are more present both with their environments and with other people. Being human is, by definition, challenging. In therapy sessions, clients are guided in identifying their values and what sort of people they want to be. Clients are supported in taking values-based behavioral actions even in the presence of emotional discomfort. Many clients find the process of identifying their values to be illuminating and gratifying.

Message to clients

Do you feel like you're always battling unwanted thoughts and feelings? Are you getting "bossed around" by them in a way that's affecting your ability to enjoy life and feel present? Or negatively impacting your relationships, work, or other important areas of life? If so, you're definitely not alone. Life can be stressful, which makes it difficult at times to make choices that are in line with what's best for us. On top of that, we tend to "beat up" on ourselves for behaving ineffectively and struggling with our emotions, which makes matters even worse. I can help you with these common problems.

It can be overwhelming to undergo a search for a therapist, and you should feel proud for making the choice to start therapy. During our initial sessions, we will take time to establish rapport and determine your treatment goals. I will teach you some skills right away, so you can start getting a handle on your symptoms. I will also discuss a treatment plan with you so you know what you can expect. I view myself as a "coach" and us as a team. And, believe it or not, clients find therapy sessions to be engaging and even fun!
