Professional statement

With over 15 years of post graduate experience, Jessica Kaplan has dedicated her career to supporting children, teens, families and young adults struggling to cope with worry, stress & anxiety. As of 2020 Jessica began working exclusively with emerging adults/adults ages 18-30 who present with symptoms of generalized anxiety and/or social anxiety and/or, specific phobias and/or mild/moderate OCD. She particularly enjoys working with college students and post graduate folks who are high achievers looking to establish and maintain balance in their lives.

Ms. Kaplan's clients tend to struggle with perfectionistic tendencies, a fear of failure or not being enough, difficulty quieting their mind from racing thoughts, & managing the physical symptoms of panic and anxiety. She uses a cognitive behavioral approach in her treatment of clients which emphasizes the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Learning to identify untrue and unhelpful thoughts (cognitive distortions) is key to being able to put things into perspective. With greater clarity often comes meaningful behavioral change and increased emotional stability. Mindfulness practices and other treatment approaches like exposure response prevention may be incorporated as is clinically indicated.

You can expect an active therapist who is both compassionate and empathetic, as well as able to provide valuable, evidenced based skills (this means they are backed by research and science) for managing worry and stress. You’ll learn how to reassure yourself that you CAN tolerate the exhausting and annoying effects of anxiety and panic on the body mind. You’ll learn that you are capable of more than you think, and that when you begin to set more realistic expectations of yourself and others the more productive you will be, and the more fulfilling your relationships will feel-- most notably your relationship with yourself.
