Professional statement

Katrina Burton is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Certified High Performance Coach based in Ellicott City, MD, who works with busy, stressed and overwhelmed women who are ready to get their lives back.

Katrina’s eclectic and intuitive approach combines these core psychological frameworks:

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on the connection between our inner thoughts, beliefs, actions, and behaviors.

• Positive Psychology, the scientific study of the strengths that empower individuals to thrive, based on the belief that people want to live meaningful lives, cultivate what is best within themselves, and enhance their experiences of love, work, and play.

• Narrative Therapy, which helps clients who are stuck in problem-saturated life stories to reimagine their perceptions, articulate experiences in new ways, and re-author past and future chapters.

Katrina masterfully integrates her training, clinical experience, and rich life experiences, to help clients experience spiritual and emotional transformations, break destructive cycles, improve relationships, and create more meaningful lives. She incorporates mindfulness and other techniques to help clients create a new identity grounded in self-care, compassion, and love.

Katrina has a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health degree with a concentration in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University Maryland.

Katrina is also a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, bringing specialized tools to help her clients rewire their anxious brains and replace negative thought patterns with more positive, affirming, and nurturing beliefs and behaviors.

Prior to pivoting to this work, Katrina worked for over twenty five years as an executive in the business sector. When she is not working, she loves to eating in a good brunch spot, listening to soulful music, and traveling with her husband and daughters.

Katrina offers the flexibility of remote therapy sessions, and welcomes new clients to her online practice.

Message to clients

Do you feel confused and frustrated? The strength and tenacity cultivated in you since you were a little girl have served you well, equipping to do amazing things. You’re a high performer (or you used to be), and on the outside, your life looks pretty superb. Yet, the superwoman cape that has helped you soar has come at a cost. You are tired. Exhausted. Frustrated.

You snap at your loved ones, resent your boss and colleagues, and sometimes want to escape your own life. It’s growing harder to ignore the little voice inside. Something needs to change, but you’re not sure what or how.

Clients who work with me have often experienced some form of existential crisis. Something has happened which has caused them to ask the deeper questions in life that sound something like “what’s it all for?”

It’s possible to feel better. Imagine a life where you could...

• Be high energy, motivated, and ambitious.

• Control how you respond to anxious thoughts.

• Have improved attitude, mood, and productivity.

• Create a more meaningful life based on who you are and what you desire.

• Change your life for the better.

My passion is leveraging psychology, spiritual principals, and personal development tools to help clients move from overwhelm to overflow.

Clients describe working with me as feeling like putting on a new pair of glasses, shifting from focusing on all the obstacles to seeing the possibilities and recreating new realities.

I believe everyone’s life is a story, and it’s never too late to write a new one.
