Professional statement

Mechelle Turner is a licensed mental health counselor in New York dedicated to helping adults unearth the root cause of their emotional distress. Many of her clients are considered high-functioning, working professionals. These individuals are often considered “successful” by many standards, but feel stressed by growing to-do lists, cannot figure out how to grow closer to their partner, or get triggered by things that they feel “should not matter.” Mechelle begins her process with clients by examining how unresolved past wounds may be showing up in unique ways in their present lives. She will guide clients in creating a pathway to develop genuine congruency between their internal and external selves.

Mechelle’s approach to therapy is straightforward, she aims for focused, impactful sessions in a warm, understanding environment. Her sessions go beyond symptom relief. She is motivated to solve the root problems. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for clients to gain more awareness of their current reactions, habits, and feelings. She integrates Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), to aid the clients' healing process from past and current distressing memories and experiences. She aims to collaborate with clients to help them reconnect with what matters most.

Mechelle’s prior experience working in fast-paced clinical settings equipped her to uncover mental health issues quickly and put together plans that work. She equips clients with the tools needed to navigate their inner world and show up confidently in all areas of life. She capitalizes on her clients' strengths, providing them with the confidence and skills to build their resiliency, grow their inner peace, and empower them to show up in the world the way they want to be. Her goal is not to keep clients in therapy indefinitely but rather to give them the tools to thrive outside of it.

Message to clients

I find it a privilege to be invited into someone’s story, one I don’t take lightly. I believe showing up for yourself and getting support can be transformative not just for you, but for everyone your life touches.

I am committed to facilitating an environment that welcomes honest feedback. I appreciate when clients feel safe to advocate for their needs during the therapeutic process.

I understand how precious the therapeutic relationship can be in cultivating trust, and having a reliable guide in the process. I firmly believe that long-term healing begins when you are ready to change old patterns that no longer serve you. For these reasons, finding a quality therapist can be a rewarding and healing experience.
