Professional statement

Dr. Casey is a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience. She has served in leadership roles within large healthcare organizations and university counseling centers. She draws upon her education, training, and years of experience when providing therapy to individuals, couples, and groups. She founded Spring Psychological Services in 2020 out of a desire to be more intentional in her work as a psychologist and to provide the type of care she knows her clients deserve.

Dr. Casey views counseling as a collaborative process. She understands that some clients prefer a conversational approach whereas others value structure and guidance. Dr. Casey sees the benefits of both, and she meets her clients where they are. Rather than dictating the process of change, she helps her clients look within to clarify what’s causing them distress and pursue growth in ways that feel meaningful to them.

Dr. Casey approaches therapy from an integrative perspective. This means she doesn’t rely on one theory, but is knowledgeable and well-practiced in a variety of approaches. For example, she understands how psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and emotion-focused therapies compliment one another and how, when practiced integratively, can amplify her clients’ progress.

While Dr. Casey integrates several evidence-based approaches in her work, her sessions do not feel stiff or confined. She is her genuine self when meeting with clients. She listens well. She is warm, empathic, and compassionately direct when needed. She bears witness to her clients' suffering, heartache, and fears as well as their moments of insight, hope, and perseverance. She believes we are more than the sum of our parts and that human life - heartaches, hopes and all - deserve to be taken seriously.

Message to clients

I’m so glad you’re here. I know it can be difficult trying to find a therapist when you’re struggling. For any number of reasons, I may not be the therapist you choose. I’m still so glad you’re here. I’ve been where you are, and I’ll likely be where you are many times over. That’s because life is both beautiful and painful, and sometimes it’s hard to know why.

There’s a quote I love by John O'Donohue. “This living is strange,” he said. “The mystery never leaves you.” I think that’s true. Psychology does its best to explain and predict human behavior but the mysteries of the heart persist. Courage can be hard to uncover. Hope can be hard to access.

I believe it takes a therapist open to the complexities of the human spirit and who can hold space for more than one truth at a time to connect with someone in distress. As a therapist, I do my best to help my clients understand their feelings and change their behaviors in ways that are important to them. And I’m very successful at this work. Still, I know I’m not in the business of curing pain. You aren’t a symptom to be solved. You’re a human being with a heart that sometimes aches, a mind that sometimes races, and a spirit that longs for meaning and peace. Therapy can be a powerful step in the direction you’d like to go. Please keep walking.
