Professional statement

Susannah Flaherty is a psychologist licensed in California and Massachusetts practicing telehealth. She works with individuals and couples. Many of Susannah’s clients see her for relationship concerns, anxiety concerns, life transitions, and when they are struggling with fertility or postpartum issues. Susannah is particularly passionate about serving couples and women undergoing life changes such as engagement, marriage, pregnancy, parenthood, retirement, career changes, and other life stage transitions. She has advanced training in Gottman Couples Therapy.

Susannah is trained in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches, which focus on increasing insight as well as building tools to decrease distress and increase joy and fulfillment. In session, Susannah focuses on building self-knowledge and finding tools to improve coping and resilience. This approach supports clients so they can navigate challenges more successfully, with self-compassion and confidence.

Susannah’s style is warm, supportive, and centered around a client’s hopes for progress. When a client first comes in, Susannah is welcoming and encouraging. She helps clients feel comfortable so they can express their challenges and needs. Susannah and her clients collaboratively identify goals for psychotherapy. Susannah is dedicated to providing a relationship that is connected and successful.

Susannah received her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona and her doctorate degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She gained experience at several college counseling centers including the Illinois State University, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, California State University Northridge, and the University of California San Diego. This training enables Susannah to connect with a diverse range of individuals undergoing a multitude of transitions and challenges. Outside of private practice, she devotes time to nature, family, friends, food, travel, and fun.
