Professional statement

Swaroopa Dundon is a psychotherapist in based in Westchester, NY. She is experienced in offering therapy across the lifespan and sees teens and adults in her practice. Swaroopa works with clients by gently examining thoughts and feelings to get to the root causes of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, lowered self-esteem and perfectionism. Swaroopa helps clients make connections between their life experiences, reduce emotional pain and find new hope for improved relationships and a meaningful life. Swaroopa is particularly passionate about serving families, people of color and couples.

Swaroopa is trained in CBT, family systems, mindfulness and hatha yoga. A long time yoga practitioner and teacher, she brings in elements of mindfulness and breathwork into her practice and supports clients in their discoveries of themselves. Swaroopa works to draw out insights and gently challenges clients to become the best versions of themselves.

Swaroopa's style is collaborative and client centered. Having lived in different parts of the world, Swaroopa’s work is always culturally informed. Being an immigrant herself, she understands the unique set of challenges faced by first and second generation families as they assimilate to a new way of life. When clients first start therapy, Swaroopa will establish trust in a judgement free environment. The next step will be to set goals and work toward them at a pace that feels comfortable and safe, pausing often to evaluate progress.

Swaroopa received a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from New York University. She also completed a two-year intensive clinical program at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy to work with families and couples. Outside of her work, Swaroopa enjoys creating native plant landscapes and spending time with her family and beloved dog Ruby.
