Professional statement

Taemin (he/him) is a queer Korean therapist who specializes in helping clients explore issues of sexual and gender identity racialized trauma, and life transitions.

Taemin developed his therapeutic practice in a commitment to honoring the fullness of his clients' identities. As a result, he uses existential and narrative approaches to help his clients find and nurture sources of meaning in their lives, even through periods of uncertainty and transition.

Taemin often works with clients who feel unseen in work and community spaces, or are seeking more clarity around how their social environment impacts their ability to flourish authentically. He takes a warm and curious approach to help his clients explore and identify patterns in their experiences of race, sexual and gender identity, and in the intersections thereof. By nurturing deep self-love and self-understanding, he assists both individuals and couples to untangle how those patterns shape their relationships with others.

Taemin trains in liberatory and anti-racist therapeutic modalities that are grounded in a cross-cultural lens and evidence-based. He provides training and expert consultation on multilingual and multicultural therapeutic practice with organizations such as the National Association of Social Workers, the UCLA Asian American Studies Center, and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Message to clients

Surviving (let alone thriving!) in a world that feels needlessly marginalizing and violent is exhausting. Often, it can sap our ability to look beyond survival and toward our values and sources of meaning. As a queer Asian child of immigrants, I understand how building resilience feels even harder when our social environment doesn’t support us to live authentically.

I often work with clients who are experiencing the dissonance between what feels realistic and what feels morally right. Even though we live in a world of limited choices, I am committed to sit with you to unpack where these tensions come from and how to weave a path that honors your social position and perspective. Beyond building insight of self, I also help my clients to build coping skills and manage feelings of depression or anxiety in a way that is contextual to their social environment.

My goal is for our meaning-making work together to help you leave our sessions feeling empowered and supported to move decisively in your familial and found communities. I hope that our time together will also help you explore your relationship to self and build toward a self-image that best reflects your inner values.
