Professional statement

Zakeeyah Khan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NY who specializes in seeing individuals with anxiety, childhood trauma, and/or substance or alcohol abuse. In addition, many of her clients are navigating major life transitions, like entering the working world or transitioning careers.

Zakeeyah draws from a variety of treatment modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and mindfulness practices.

When working with clients with a history of trauma, Zakeeyah takes an individualized treatment approach that takes into account the client’s needs and goals. She usually incorporates elements of Gestalt Therapy, breath work, mindfulness techniques, and chair work. Zakeeyah helps individuals develop a safety plan and learn new tools that they can use to cope in their daily life. She provides a safe space for her clients to approach trauma work, and allows them to proceed at their pace.

Zakeeyah is passionate about the work she does and wants to help her clients rewrite their story and leave sessions feeling empowered to take control of their life.

Message to clients

Much of the work of therapy with me will address how your reactions, emotions, perceptions, etc... interface with the reality around you. We will work through both internal and external conflicts you experience that might impact your life in a significant way.

My work is rooted in an understanding of systemic oppression. I strongly believe that it is not possible to consider healing outside the context of our external realities, and I value the internal work and transformation that can help us feel empowered in the face of oppression.

If you're interested in scheduling a free, 15-minute phone consultation, feel free to contact me. At this time, I am able to respond to emails more promptly than phone calls.
