Sometimes we all need a little perspective. Sometimes when individuals feel overwhelmed by pain, confusion, sadness, & anxiety, it feels impossible or improbable for things to get any worse, much less any better. I know that you are the expert on your own life experience, and I believe what I bring to the table are the tools to help you feel more empowered, confident, and at peace with who you are. Sometimes gaining outside perspective & validation is what you need to come to an understanding of who you are at your very core, and to like the person you find there!
My approach is collaborative and proactive so we can work together to help you accomplish your goals, experience symptom reduction, and become the person you want to be in a warm welcoming space where there is no judgment.
I know it's not easy to make the decision to see a therapist. I don't know yet what difficult things are going on in your life right now, but there's probably more than it feels like you can manage. That's why you're here - and the last thing I would want to do is to add to that burden. As a therapist, I do my best to make you feel safe and comfortable working with me from the very first time we talk - but I also know that it may take some time for you to trust me enough to tell me everything you want me to know, or to be ready to hear any suggestions I might have for you. That's fine. We'll go at your pace, whether you're ready to dive right into your biggest challenges today, or take some time to decide whether I'm the person you trust to help you.
If you do decide to trust me, there are many different ways I might be able to help you. You may be looking for specific suggestions to help you cope with specific problems, like insomnia or anxiety attacks or conflicts with co-workers. I can probably offer some. Or you may feel the need to have someone you can share your feelings with, who won't judge you or shame you or tell you what to do. I can be that person. You may not really know what you need yet - you might just know that you're not living the life you want to live, but not really know why or what will help. I can help you sort through what your goals are, what's getting in your way, and what can help you achieve them. For some people, a few sessions of therapy is all they need to learn some new skills that help get them past a challenge. For others, therapy may be an ongoing source of valuable support for many years. But we'll take it one session at a time. The first step is reaching out and setting up an appointment. My office is one where you will not be judged for your child's behaviors or problems because I know that is not helpful. We will work together to figure out how to support you and your child with evidence-based treatments and medications only as they are indicated. I also treat parents directly, particularly those who are struggling with the transition to parenthood or balancing the demands of parenthood with other responsibilities.
To college students and young adults: I am here to help you if you feel like your coping skills are failing you. There are so many things you can do to feel better that are safe and well-tolerated. There is no time like the present to address the factors limiting your potential.

Bring your whole self to therapy, the parts you let others see, those you don’t and those you may not even be aware of. Through a highly individualized approach, I'm committed to creating a safe space, free of judgment, where you feel seen, listened to and understood; empowered to move forward as you want. Recognizing and building on your strengths and interests to get you where you want to go, feel better about yourself and find your place in the world will be at the heart of our work. Noticing barriers, working with them or moving past them will become possible as you feel stronger, more grounded and equipped with coping and stress management skills.
Using a primarily cognitive approach, I incorporate practical coaching support, leaving space to touch on deeper, existential questions while addressing some of the following concerns: anxiety, depression, executive functioning, understanding and management of sensory sensitivities, social communication skills to negotiate friendships, intimate relationships, school, employment and independent life.
Education about autism and gender, as needed, for individuals and/or parents is often incorporated into the session in an effort to increase self-awareness and enable self-advocacy.
I welcome collaboration with schools and other providers to offer the comprehensive support that is often needed.
