Professional statement

Stella Fischl is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist practicing in New York City. She sees children, adolescents, and adults, and has particular expertise in seeing clients experiencing difficult life transitions and unhealthy relationships. She helps clients with cope with past trauma, anxiety, depression, and incorporates art therapy as a powerful modality to healing.

Stella is passionate about working with young adults and teenagers, including reluctant therapy-goers. She loves that art therapy is “not what people think it's going to be.” For families, Stella initially meets with family members individually to gauge personal needs before working on connections together. She guides clients through exercises to help them understand their relationship dynamic, notice where it can be improved, and build on strengths. Structured art making interventions may be utilized to encourage healthy boundaries and modes of communication.

Stella uses dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help build concrete skills, focusing on communication and managing emotions. She uses art to help her clients explore themselves and to facilitate introspection and healing. Stella’s experiences include working at a women's shelter and with The Motherhood Center of New York, as well as with adult and teen mothers, domestic violence survivors, children & adolescents with mental health disorders, and youth in foster care.

Stella received her Masters in Art Therapy from New York University. She is also an artist and holds a BFA in painting from Pratt Institute. She has completed advanced training in both DBT and stress reduction.
